The Ranch

The Ranch

Where: Columbiana, OH

When: 2005

Status: Gone.

The Ranch was a small bowling alley near Columbiana Ohio in Columbiana county.

I have no idea how I'm going to fill up as much text as I've allowed myself here.

The Ranch was on of those places that I drove past thousands of times before finally stopping to check out.

The ranch was your typical roadside bar, carryout, bowling alley. It was known for being the place that teenagers could buy beer.

New section of the building near the front of the complex.

While back in my hometown for a holiday I decided to go see what was left of the old Ranch. I hadn't spent much time there as a teen because it was pretty much closed down by the time I would have visited. It did reopen a few times off and on over the years, but it was never really very busy.

Stairs in the old section. As you can see, the building is in very bad condition. The dust is plaster.

The building was literally collapsed over the bowling alleys by the time I got there. I was able to get in to the basement, but it was raining through the building and in to the basement. That's a bad sign. There was a bowling ball down there. I never take stuff from these buildings, but I almost made an exception in this case. There was a bulldozer next to the building. The building was collapsed. It was obvious that they were about to the knock it down, but I still decided to stick to my own rules an not take anything.

Other than the bowling ball, there wasn't much to see. There were some piano insides which seem to be found at an unusually high number of abandoned places. I'm thinking of making a section dedicated to just that.

The Ranch is now gone. Forever lost is the beer hookup for teens as well as the last remaining bowling alley on route 14 between East Palestine and Columbiana...

Rest your warped lanes in peace.
